In its endeavour to establish a college for boys, in addition to the only Secunderabad College, Osmania University, four decades ago, the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh was on the lookout for a private organisation that could take upon its shoulders the onus of setting up a degree college in the region. The exemplary visionary, late Sri Shankerji, the then Hon. Secretary of the O.G.A. and the then chairman of the A.P. Public Service Commission, was quick to seize the opportunity and initiated the process for the establishment of the first O.G.A. under graduate college for boys.
Thus, Sardar Patel College was born in the series of educational institutions, sponsored by the Osmania Graduates' Association in collaboration with The Exhibition Society. Initially housed in the old law college building at Abids in 1970, it was moved to Padmaraonagar in Secunderabad in a few months time. Its strategic location opened avenues of education for young boys in Secunderabad and surrounding areas of Malkajgiri, Uppal, Alwal, Kukatpally, Balangar, Dindigal, Ghatkesar, Ranga Reddy District and others.
Sardar Patel College, functioning from private premises, could not build a permanent structure of its The Urban Land Ceiling Act was the main stumbling block for the Parent Bodies, which represented to the Government to allot the surplus land under ULC Act to the College in public interest. The perseverance of the management and the good offices of Sri S.V. Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department and Sri R. V. Chandravadan, I. A. S., Collector, Hyderbad District ultimately were responsible for the allotment of the premises for the noble cause. The selfless and relentless services of late Sri S. Shankerji, late Sri P. Narsaiah, Sri M. Madan Mohan, Sri S. Chenna Reddy and Dr. T. V. Narayana among others are primarily significant in hauling up Sardar Patel College to its present status. Sardar Patel College offers B. A., B. Sc. and B. Com., along with Computer Science as an optional for about 2000 students. Introduction of post graduation in Commerce in the year 1989 and the conversion of the institution into a co-education college in 1998 are two major milestones in its progress. It has faculty strength of more than 70, of which 28 are doctorates and seven are A. P. Best Teacher Awardees. The College has developed a well equipped Research Centre in Botany, which is recognized by the Osmania University for the pursuit of research. The Departments of Botany, Chemistry and Languages have produced 18 doctorates through research guidance. Well-equipped laboratories in Physical and Life Sciences have made this possible. The University Grants Commission funds are appropriately utilized to upgrade technology in science and computer laboratories. The College has a power generator and a LCD Projector.
Way back in 1970, a team of dignitaries from Osmania Graduates' Association consisting of late Sri. Shankarji, late Sri. B. Jayasena visited Warangal and decided on the spot to establish a junior college under the name of late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Since it was run in borrowed premises, the members of the Exhibition Society and O.G.A visited Warangal to identify a site for raising a proper structure for Lal Bahadur College. In this endeavour, they were ably assisted by late Sri R. Ramchander Rao, an advocate. The college is ideally located in an area of 25 acres right under Bhadrakali tank/temple.
Lal Bahadur College is the first college to be started by the Osmania Graduates' Association & Exhibition Society outside Hyderabad to serve the backward areas. It started with two section of P.U.C. and one section of B.A. and B.Com. each with 200 students. Narayana, Sri. Sudharshan, Sri. A. Ranga Rao, Sri. Babu Rao Varma, Sri. C. B. Namdev, Sri. P. Narayan Reddy among others are the unique stalwarts who are predominantly responsible for high quality education coupled with discipline and peace in the campus.
The dedicated services of the members of management, teaching and non-teaching staff were responsible for the College's steady development. The Parent Bodies were encouraged to launch a PG Centre. Today it has reached a strength of 2200 students, set good academic records steered by highly qualified faculty. It has 120 teaching and non teaching staff. The students bring laurels to the College by bagging gold medals year after year from the Kakatiya University. It is now an "A" Grade college recognized by NAAC. This is a feather in the cap of O.G.A. The Exhibition Society so far contributed more than Rs.1.3 crores for the development of the College.
A true Warangalian, Sri. P.Narayan Reddy, who took over as Secretary-cum-Correspondent and became an indispensable part of the College. A towering personality, Sri. Reddy spearheaded the development of quality education and construction of the formidable structure befitting the stature of the institution. Late Sri. M. N. On his request, Sri Ram Reddy initiated the process of establishing this institution. The Minister advised the Exhibition Society to undertake the endeavour, the result being Sri Ramalingeshwara Degree College. 7.5 acres of land was purchased at nominal rate from the villagers. However, due to lack of support and encouragement from the local people in the late 1990s, the College suffered on account of drastic depletion in the student strength. The Exhibition Society had taken a resolution to close down the institution.
However, some members strongly resisted the move and took over revitalization of this college, particularly in the year 2000. The members, who strove to develop this college, include Sri V. Sudershan, Sri S. Padma Rao, Prof. T. V. Gopala Chari, Sri M. Madhusudan, Sri Ahmed Hussain Sri P. Vasanth Rao, M. Vijayender Reddy and Sri S. Bal Reddy. Osmania Graduates' Association had been nurturing the intentions of starting professional colleges, particularly the colleges of education, since early eighties. Aresolution was passed to this effect by its Managing Committee. However, the policy of the Government at the time was not one of encouraging establishment of B. Ed Colleges and hence O. G. A's intentions remained dreams unfulfilled for almost two decades.
In 1995, with a change in the Government's policy for the better, permissions were being granted for the establishment of B. Ed. Colleges in rural areas. It was time for the O.G.A. to turn its long cherished dream into a reality. Three districts in the Telangana region were identified for the purpose Warangal, Ranga Reddy and Mahaboobnagar.
Sri C. B. Namdev, Former President, Osmania Graduates' Association and President, Economic Committee, along with Sri P. Narayan Reddy, Hon. Secretary, Lal Bahadur College, spearheaded the process. They were assisted by two dynamic office bearers of O.G.A., Sri P. Vasantha Rao, President and Dr. T. V. Gopala Chari, Secretary. The joint efforts of other members of Managing Committees of O.G.A. and the Exhibition Society resulted in the establishment of the Lal Bahadur College of Education at Warangal, in the year 2002-03.
Dr. P. Samma Reddy, the founder Principal shaped the College in becoming an excellent centre of education. Sri S. Padma Rao, the previous Chairman and Dr. C. B. Srinivasa Rao, Chairman, made relentless efforts to procure the PG Course. The M.Ed. course was inaugurated on 27 September 2008 by Prof. N. The establishment of the B. Ed. College at Pargi can be traced to the intention of Sri K. Harishwar Reddy, the M.L.A. from that constituency, who suggested that the Osmania Graduates' Association must initialize the process. Sri P. Vasanth Rao and Dr. Gopala Chari, the then President and Secretary of O.G.A. respectively, began to explore the possibility and commenced the required spadework for the purpose. Hon'ble M.L.A. Sri K. Harishwar Reddy assured the Association of required co-operation from the local leadership in addition to securing 10 acres of land in Pargi town at nominal cost. The efforts of Sri P.
